District Plans and Projects for 2006 - 2007

A. LEARNING: We respect the ability of each student to learn and to grow with a global perspective.

Goal: Every single student will achieve academic success.

  1. Begin the process of monitoring the graduation rate. (C)
  2. Implement the plan for highlighting and recognizing student progress in CTE. (C)
  3. Continue to monitor the performance of student subgroups on the CRT tests (including high ability learners), considering the use of "data notebooks" for each teacher. (C)
  4. Develop a plan in each secondary school to ensure that every student has a positive "connection" to school. (C)
  5. Implement the Scholars Project for high school graduation requirements. (N)
  6. Develop a plan to participate in the "National Academic League" at the middle school level. (N)

B. TEACHING: Excellence in teaching is both expected and supported.

Goal: Excellent instruction is conducted in every classroom.

  1. Implement and refine the new interventions for students at risk developed during the 05-06 school year, including students with a gpa less than C-. (C)
  2. Implement the standards-based assessment and grading project and the new textbook adoption in math. (C)
  3. Continue to refine the implementation of the IB MYP program, preparing for IBO authorization, mapping the curriculum, and developing a communication plan for teachers, students, and parents. (C)
  4. Continue to define the role of the arts as both a core curriculum content area and an instructional methodology infused into the other core subjects. (C)
  5. Continue to refine professional development, reducing the number of days teachers are out of their classrooms, responding to individual teacher needs, and articulating the district-wide professional development plan. (C)
  6. Implement the full-day Kindergarten option in all four elementary schools (N)
  7. Conduct a comprehensive review of the effectiveness of the alternative language program (N)
  8. Develop a systematic plan for preparing students for the UBSCT and develop interventions to reduce the number of attempts needed to pass. (N)
  9. Develop a plan to improve the level that technology is infused into instruction. (N)
  10. Develop a plan to provide instruction in internet safety for parents and students. (N)

C. SUPPORT: An effective and efficient district infrastructure contributes to excellent teaching and learning.

Goal: Every district employee and district function is focused on facilitating student success.

  1. Continue construction at PCHS, working with the staff and community to complete planning on the interior features, and developing a comprehensive plan for fixtures and furniture. (C)
  2. Continue to explore ways to address maintenance concerns in the district. (C)
  3. Review post-retirement benefits and the new GASB standards. (N)
  4. Conduct a review of our standards for employee accountability, differentiating for new and veteran teachers, and providing for consistency among supervisors and administrators. (N)
  5. Refine our procedures for managing and monitoring school and department budgets, ensuring that budget figures are firm, accurate, and reliable. (N)
  6. Provide training sufficient for each site to confidently assume responsibility for the management of their budget. (N)
  7. Refine our procedures for developing budgets for the following fiscal year and long range budget planning. (N)

D. COLLABORATION: Collaboration is both pervasive and effective.

Goal: Both community and employee stakeholders work as cooperating partners in achieving success for every student.

  1. Complete the dialogue with the city and Basin Recreation about the shared use of facilities. (C)
  2. Complete the recommendations of the Calendar Committee. (C)
  3. Continue to advocate for Legislative support of public education. (C)
  4. Develop procedures to improve coordination between PCHS, TMIS, and PCLC. (N)
  5. Refine our parent concern form and the district's response plan for parent concerns (N)
  6. Consider participating in a national network on international education. (N)
