Message to Parents:
In light of the recent school shooting in Connecticut, we would like to suggest the following guidelines when talking with your children about this incident. First and foremost let them know that they are safe. It is our recommendation that you limit or avoid access to media coverage especially in the elementary grades. Children will have a variety of emotional responses related to this incident. It is recommended that you take care of yourself and manage your own anxiety, do not talk about the event in front of young children and to filter your media resources.

Teachers have been advised by the crisis team on how to manage student’s reactions in the classroom. Our goal is to limit access to and discussion of media images that will cause undue stress. Students will be reassured that each school in our district has a detailed safety plan in place to keep their school safe.

Handling emergency situations

Park City School District’s communication plan now includes a telephone and email notification service that allows the District to get emergency information to you quickly. AlertNow allows us to deliver a single, clear message to students’ parents or guardians by phone, e-mail, and text message about unanticipated school closures and emergencies.

E-Mail and Phone Messages

You do not need to sign up to receive e-mail and telephone voice messages. AlertNow draws phone numbers for voice messages and email addresses from our student information system, PowerSchool. Therefore, it is very important that PowerSchool data be kept current.

Text Messages

In addition to receiving AlertNow messages via voice message and email, you may also receive emergency text messages on your cell phone. Since your cell phone provider may charge you for text messages, you must personally opt in to this service. Sign up to receive text messages by going to https://www.alertnowsms.com/. The District’s pin is ParkCitySD. If you would like to receive emergency text messages and you don’t have access to the internet, please contact your school secretary and give her your cell phone number.

The successful delivery of messages through the system is dependent upon accurate information for each student. By providing accurate and updated information, we will be more likely able to contact you in case of an emergency.  If this information changes during the year, please notify the secretary of your child’s school immediately.
