FAQ’s – Treasure Mountain Junior High School Demolition & Environmental Safety

Treasure Mountain Junior High School was constructed during a time when asbestos-containing materials were commonly used in school buildings. Some areas of the school contained these older materials, which were identified through updated testing prior to and throughout demolition.

Demolition in the impacted area was paused immediately. Licensed abatement professionals removed all regulated asbestos-containing materials following strict state and federal safety standards.

No. Abatement work occurred within controlled zones and under continuous monitoring by environmental specialists to ensure that asbestos fibers did not become airborne outside regulated areas.

The district conducts routine air and dust testing as part of our quality control standards. This includes 20 environmental samples per week, plus two additional quality-control samples focused on lead and total dust, ensuring results remain consistent and safe throughout the demolition process.

A certified environmental specialist from RMEC Environmental, Inc. has been on-site throughout demolition, and all abatement work has been coordinated with state regulatory agencies.

Yes. Demolition outside of the previously identified areas has continued safely and regulated materials have been fully abated where required.

No. Park City School District has not received any fines or penalties.
