Planning and Training
Planning and Training includes plans that schools develop to facilitate an effective response when a crisis situation occurs. Each school is required to complete a school emergency plan which includes needs specific to each school. School teams are comprised of Administrators, teachers, support staff, parents, and local emergency responders. Each school must practice specific drills including lockdown, shelter in place, and fire.
Preparedness includes district policies that deal with safe schools, bullying, harassment, and hazing. School and Community Based Prevention/Intervention Activities/Programs are held throughout the year. Activities include:
- Systematic Screening of Student Behavior Protocol
- District-wide activities to promote “anti-stigma” campaigns on campus
- Provide multiple opportunities throughout the school year for family-school-community collaboration via conferences, workshops, and training, including internet safety classes for Latino parents
- Utilize response to intervention problem-solving framework for identified at-risk youth
- Sixty percent of elementary counselors time is spent in classrooms presenting evidence-based prevention-related curriculum
- District participation on State of Utah intervention teams and training
- District participation in community United Against Bullying Coalition
- District implementation of research-based school-wide bullying prevention & intervention program
- Annual “Emergency Preparedness Week” at each school site in PCSD
- Peer Tutoring Programs grades 6 through 12
- Academic after school tutoring for all students grades K – 12
- Latinos in Action at secondary schools, student leadership opportunities
- Park City School District Latino Outreach Counselor, full–time
- Park City School District Intervention Counselor, full-time
The district and schools have response protocols for situations and/or students who are at-risk, in crisis or potentially dangerous. Interventions are designed for students who may not respond to prevention efforts. This also includes implementing the district team danger assessment process, and using the RTI/Problem Solving Process when needed.
Recovery includes the steps the school community uses to respond appropriately during and after a crisis situation for the care and recovery of students and staff. The goal is to return the school to a caring and supportive learning environment.
