Dear [School] Families,
This letter is to inform you of a concerning social media post that was made by a student [when]. We want to make sure you have accurate information and dispel any rumors you may have heard.
Today, [school] administration received information of a potential safety threat made on social media by a student. (Describe the incident in detail, law enforcement involvement, and the steps that were taken to remedy it.)
We appreciate students, staff, and parents reporting unusual or potentially unsafe situations and I am proud of the work our students are doing and have done in regards to openly communicating with us when there are concerns.
Please speak with your student about the seriousness of threatening violence against the school and other students. Whether verbal, nonverbal, or on social media, we take every report or potential threat very seriously. This is a good reminder for parents and guardians to have conversations about responsible social media use and monitor their student’s social media accounts.
If you have any further questions, please feel free to call my office at XXXX. Thank you for your support and assistance in keeping our schools safe.
