Student Death

Dear Parents and Guardians,

It is with a heavy heart that I need to inform you that one of our 1st-grade students died today as a result of a medical condition. Death can be difficult for us to understand, especially when it feels sudden. We may feel a variety of emotions: shock, sadness, or confusion. We expect a variety of reactions to this loss from our students, parents, and members of our staff. Some of these reactions may be mild, others may be more intense.  What is most important is that we care for and support each other.

The Park City School District Crisis Response Team has made plans to respond to the emotional needs of all students. Students will be informed tomorrow and staff members will be available to provide support as needed. If your family has experienced a death or similar loss recently, the death of this student may bring up feelings about that death. While this may be a normal experience, we want to provide assistance, if needed. Please let your child’s teacher know if there is any additional information the school should be aware of so we can provide the support your child needs. 

This difficult time can be stressful and confusing. Sudden death may be difficult for you as well as for your child. It is for this reason that we especially want you to know of our care and support.

It is with deep sorrow that we are reporting the death of XXXXX, one of our XXX students, who was involved in a vehicle accident yesterday morning. XXXXX succumbed to XXX injuries last evening.

Our thoughts and prayers are with XXXXX and XXX family during this difficult time. We also offer condolences to all the XXXXX students and staff members, especially XXX classmates, teachers and support staff.

If you have any concerns about your child’s reactions to this loss, feel free to contact your child’s teacher, the school counselors, or the administrative staff.
