Yondr Pouches – Park City School District

📵 Yondr Pouches at PCSD: Cell Phone-Free Learning

Starting Fall 2025, all Park City School District students in grades 6–12 will be required to secure their cell phones in a Yondr pouch during the school day at Ecker Hill Middle School and Park City High School.

This initiative supports a focused and connected learning environment, building on the success of Yondr at Treasure Mountain Junior High.

With generous support from the Park City Education Foundation, this initiative is fully funded for students and families.

    ❓ Frequently Asked Questions

How are the Yondr pouches funded?

The Yondr pouches are fully funded through the Park City Education Foundation, thanks to the generous support of our community partners.

What is a Yondr pouch and how does it work?

The Yondr pouch is a secure, lockable sleeve for cell phones. Students place their phone inside and keep it with them all day. Pouches can only be unlocked at designated stations.

Why is PCSD implementing this now?

The district received strong feedback after the program’s success at Treasure Mountain Junior High. With the secondary grade realignment, this is the right time to expand the policy districtwide.

Which schools and grades are affected?
    • Ecker Hill Middle School (Grades 6–8)
    • Park City High School (Grades 9–12)
    Do students keep their phones?

Yes, but locked in their pouch. Phones remain with the student but are inaccessible during the day unless unlocked for approved reasons.

What if I need to contact my student?

Call your student’s school office. Staff will deliver urgent messages. In emergencies, pouches can be unlocked immediately.

What happens during a school emergency?

Staff will unlock pouches in the event of a lockdown or evacuation so students can contact families as soon as it's safe to do so.

Can students use phones during lunch or transitions?

No. Phones remain locked during the entire school day, including lunch and passing periods.

What about students with off-campus privileges?

Students with privileges (e.g., 11th–12th grade lunch) may request to unlock their pouch before leaving and must relock it upon return.

What if my student has a medical need?

Families may request accommodations through a school counselor or nurse. Medical exemptions follow a 504 Plan or similar documentation.

    Are the pouches reusable?

Yes. Each student receives a personal pouch expected to last the entire school year.

What if a pouch is lost or damaged?

Students are responsible for their pouch. Replacement fees may apply for lost or damaged pouches.

    How will this be enforced?

Teachers will perform visual checks. Improper use will be handled through school discipline procedures.

What happens if a student refuses to use the pouch?

Progressive discipline includes: verbal reminder, parent contact, detention, and possible loss of privileges.

Can students call home if needed?

Students may use a school phone or request brief access to their device under staff supervision.

    How will staff be trained?

All staff will be trained in how to support students, unlock devices, and enforce policy consistently
