Volunteer Opportunities

• Volunteer: donates time/services without pay. Includes “permanent/recurring volunteers” (more than three times in a school year and assumed unsupervised access).

• Visitor: attends a single event (class parties, performances, field day, tours, etc.) and does not have unsupervised access. Visitors are not considered volunteers.

• Permanent/recurring volunteers: Yes.

• Visitors: No.

• Outside service providers/observers (e.g., evaluators or behavioral/mental-health workers): No, but they must be supervised by a PCSD supervising employee.

• Third-party partner volunteers: May need a background check; the school administrator or supervising director will decide and mark it on the volunteer form.

• There is no cost to permanent/recurring volunteers—the District covers it.

• For third-party partner organizations, PCSD covers up to five volunteers; any additional volunteers are paid for by the organization.

If you are volunteering in a role linked to working with or supervising students, plan on completing/maintaining it on an ongoing basis per policy and assignment. (PCSD follows state law regarding educator/volunteer background checks.)

Checks flag misdemeanors/felonies relevant to safety; minor civil matters (like a parking ticket) do not affect eligibility.

Yes. PCSD provides an online orientation module that must be completed before volunteering. Sites may add brief, role-specific training.

Yes. Each school uses a safety/management system. All volunteers during the regular school day must be processed through that system, and schools have procedures like daily sign-in logs and name tags.

No. Volunteers may not transport students in private or district vehicles.

Yes. Volunteering supports our schools but is not a right. A principal may deny or discontinue volunteer service for legitimate, non-discriminatory reasons. Volunteers must follow all district policies.
