Park City, Utah – Park City High School (PCHS) has done it again, earning the prestigious AP Platinum Award and Access Award from the College Board for the second consecutive year. These awards highlight the school’s commitment to rigorous academics and preparing students for success in post-secondary education, putting it at the forefront of schools in Utah and the nation.
The AP Platinum Award recognizes schools that excel in three areas: fostering a strong college-going culture, ensuring a high percentage of students earn college credit through AP exams, and encouraging students to take at least five AP courses during their high school career. Only five schools in Utah achieved the Platinum distinction this year, with PCHS standing out as the sole public school among them. The Access Award further celebrates schools where traditionally underrepresented groups participate in AP courses and exams at rates comparable to their peers.
Principal Roger Arbabi expressed his pride in the school’s achievement, emphasizing that maintaining this level of recognition for two consecutive years reflects students' hard work and teachers' dedication. He also highlighted the importance of PCHS’s comprehensive support system, which ensures that all first-generation college-bound students, have access to the resources they need to succeed in rigorous academic programs.
“To maintain this level of recognition for two years in a row is a huge accomplishment,” said Arbabi. “It’s a testament to the hard work of our students and the incredible dedication of our teachers,” Arbabi said.
Student dedication is a cornerstone of PCHS’s success. Over 83% of students take at least one AP course during their high school career, and a third take five or more. The school boasts an AP exam pass rate exceeding 70%, reflecting students’ relentless pursuit of academic excellence. Many push themselves to achieve at the highest levels, taking on rigorous coursework to prepare for future challenges.
“We’ve had students take as many as nine AP courses in a single year,” said Arbabi. “Their drive and commitment to challenging themselves are inspiring.”
This success is also supported by highly qualified teachers, many of whom grade AP exams at the national level to refine their understanding of the expectations and better prepare their students. Additionally, the school provides robust academic support systems, including tutoring and targeted resources, ensuring that all students—especially first-generation college-bound students—have the tools they need to succeed.
“It’s amazing to see our students continually push themselves to new heights,” said Arbabi. “Every day, they surprise me with their drive and dedication. Our goal is to keep evolving and providing an exceptional education for all our students.”
As the only public school in Utah to achieve Platinum status and one of only three schools statewide to earn both the Platinum and Access Awards, Park City High School demonstrates a strong commitment to academic excellence and equity. This recognition reflects the school’s dedication to empowering every student to succeed in high school and beyond.
Congratulations to Park City High School, its students, staff, families, and community for this outstanding achievement!
