Park City High School Recognized by Utah State Board of Education for Exemplary Support of English Learners

PARK CITY, UT – Park City High School (PCHS) has been awarded a certificate for Exemplary Education by the Utah State Board of Education (USBE), earning the distinction of providing the highest percentage of English Learners (ELs) in the state with College and Career Readiness coursework.

The recognition highlights the school’s success in ensuring that students learning English have equitable access to rigorous academic pathways. According to data provided by the USBE, PCHS achieved a near-perfect 95.50% completion rate for English Learners enrolled in College and Career Readiness courses.

The award specifically recognizes student participation in three key areas:

  • Concurrent Enrollment (95.50%): The vast majority of EL students at PCHS are earning college credit while simultaneously completing their high school requirements.
  • Advanced Placement (40.90%): Over 40% of EL students are challenged by and succeeding in college-level AP coursework.
  • Career and Technical Education (13.60%): Students are also actively engaged in specialized CTE pathways that prepare them for immediate workforce entry and technical careers.

The USBE plans to feature Park City High School's success as a model for other districts at the upcoming Alternative Language Services (ALS) meeting on March 25th.

Quote from Superintendent Lyndsay Huntsman:

“This recognition from the USBE highlights our dedication to ensuring that every student, including our Multilingual Learners and those who’ll be the first in their families to attend college, is provided the resources to pursue every path possible,” said Huntsman. “From AP courses and college credit to hands-on career training, we provide the flexibility for every student to own their future."
