Park City Ut– On December 5th, Trailside and Parley's Park Elementary schools enjoyed the beloved 'The Nutcracker' performance by Summit Dance Project, which received enthusiastic applause, especially for the portrayal of the mice.
For Allie Kenton, a Park City School District alum and now the office manager for Summit Dance Project, the performance held special meaning. Kenton, who has spent the past year and a half helping coordinate events alongside director Tonia Blomquist, reflected on the joy these performances bring to the community.
“It's thrilling to see the students' reactions to our performances,” said Allie Kenton. We are grateful to all the Park City schools for hosting us."
The event also spotlighted two rising stars with deep roots in Park City. Kylie and Livvy, sixth graders at Ecker Hill Middle School and alums of Parley’s Park Elementary, captured hearts as Raggedy Ann and Andy. Kylie added a personal touch to the day, with her mother, Tricia Perkins, a third-grade teacher at Parley’s Park, proudly watching from the audience.
“Performing for younger kids and seeing their excitement is a big part of why we love what we do,” Kylie shared after the performance.
Blomquist directed the production, which has helped make The Nutcracker a cherished Park City tradition. For over a decade, local groups, including Park City Dance, Ballet West Academy, and now Summit Dance Project, have brought this festive tale to life for the community.
The celebration of talent and dedication continues with a full-length performance scheduled for Dec. 14 at the Eccles Center. Tickets are available on the Summit Dance Project’s website, offering another chance to experience the magic of this beloved holiday tradition.
