Greetings! My name is Garret Rose and I will be your new Principal at Ecker Hill! To say I am excited is an understatement. I look forward to jump in head first to get to know each and every one of you.
I am coming from Tooele High School where I have been an assistant principal for the last 4 years. Before that, I was the state specialist for secondary English/Language Arts and Early College (they also threw in Library Media for fun!) for the Utah State Board of Education. Before that I was briefly an assistant principal for a K-9 charter. I started my educational career at Vernal Middle School teaching English and Reading at the 7th-grade level. I also taught AP English Literature, 10th grade ELA, and a Sci-fi/Fantasy class at Uintah High School and in 2015, I was teacher of the year there. I am ready for my 14th year in education to be awesome. I am excited to be a Timberwolf!
I have five children and my youngest is entering kindergarten this year. We are a family of nerds, starting with me. My specialty is Curriculum and Instruction, in which I have PhD from Utah State University (please don't call me Doctor Rose). I nerd out at highly-effective instructional strategies in the classroom. So, plan on seeing me visit your classroom often. I also have a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Cal State Fullerton (with a minor in comparative religion), a Master of Education in Secondary Education, a Reading Endorsement, and Administrative Certificate. I have had enough traditional schooling but am always up for learning!
I am originally from Southern California and try to bring some of the OC laid back attitude with me. I am a movie and music junkie and love all sports. In my spare time, I haul my five kids to practices, read, teach some classes on the side, play softball, and hang out with the family. We love to camp, cook, and play.
Feel free to stop by my office anytime for a chat. I try my hardest to have the door open at all times. I care deeply about student success in all facets and will support you in any way possible. I have heard awesome things about this school and am looking forward in doing my part to improve the already amazing things happening here. So, hello and see you soon!
