What Park City Wants in a Superintendent: Survey Results Reveal Top Community Priorities

PARK CITY, Utah — The Park City School District (PCSD) Board of Education has completed a survey to gather community input on priorities and desired leadership qualities for the district’s next superintendent. Conducted from December 18, 2024, to January 12, 2025, the survey received 1,043 responses, reflecting diverse perspectives from parents, students, staff, and other stakeholders.

Key Findings from the Survey

Community Priorities:

  • Safe and welcoming environment for all students: 52% of respondents included this as a top priority.
  • Student preparation for success post-graduation: 46% of respondents identified this as a key focus area for the district.
  • Learning outcomes and student performance: 46% ranked this among their top five concerns.
  • Student safety: 44% of participants highlighted this as a critical priority, with 20% ranking it as their number one concern.
  • Curriculum improvements: 41% included this in their top five priorities.

Desired Superintendent Qualities:

  • Leadership skills: 59% of respondents rated this as one of the most important qualities.
  • Effective communication: 54% emphasized the need for strong communication abilities.
  • Understanding the local community: 48% prioritized a superintendent who knows and engages with Park City.
  • Moral character: 47% highlighted integrity as an essential quality, with 18% ranking it as their top choice.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement: 42% stressed the importance of ongoing development and innovation.

Preferred Communication Methods for Updates:

  • District newsletter: Chosen by 53% of respondents, this was the most popular option for staying informed.
  • District Website: Selected by 38%,
  • Local print and broadcast media: 34%
  • Email updates: Preferred by 33%
  • Announcements at School Board Meetings: Preferred by 33%
  • Social media: Selected by 20%

The survey also revealed strong support for transparency in the hiring process and a desire for a leader who is both community-focused and student-centered. Many respondents called for a superintendent committed to equity, academic excellence, and long-term service.

Board President Meredith Reed stated, “This survey shows how deeply our community cares about the future of Park City schools. We are grateful for the thoughtful feedback, which will help us select a leader who shares our commitment to equity and excellence.”

Vice President Nick Hill added, “The level of participation is inspiring. We have an engaged and thoughtful community and I'm grateful to everyone who took the time to complete the survey. The input is invaluable as we work to identify the right leadership to take our schools forward.”

The Board of Education will review these findings in greater detail during its January 21, 2025 meeting.
